It is a busy week.
All of my boy-men started school. Each at different times and in different ways -- four sons, four schools. Each needed me and didn't need me. My role as Mum is being re-defined every morning over breakfast~
But, I wanted to share with you a sketch that spoke to me Monday.
On the first day of school, an artist I hadn't seen before, came into my creative life through flicker (photo sharing groups). She had painted a couple of bikes in watercolor that just lit me up. I felt so strongly about the image, that I sat and sketched the bikes (the painting above) from her finished painting. With lots of eraser fuzz everywhere, I found some paints that would work and went for it.
I ended up loving the result and so I tried another:
This is my last son to ride this little bike.
And we so make the most of it, we ride...and ride...and ride...
(I am sure these images also have a great deal to do with the journey I am personally on -- What is God breathing into my creative life? Where am I headed?)
(a bike hug)

So I have decided, I will sketch a bit of something every day and add a bit of color ~ no rules, no limits. I will let God do the leading. I will sketch what is in front of me or what I my eye sees~
I have loved the quiet moments of meditation it brings to sketch and paint, it is very calming. And even though it isn't great, I think it is good enough. This really is me at my 7am-self this morning (note to self: journal after the coffee, it will make more sense).
Do you have a creative passion that is also a calming meditation?

Can I just remind us both today -- it is okay to be a beginner.
(There are no expectations for a beginners...yes and amen?!)
We learn by watching -- and loving our great teachers --
but we really learn when get the paint wet ourselves, right?
Trying new things is a bit unnerving, but it is also the best place for new ideas to spark!
And if you do a little bit every day -- it can be so simple.
Just write your 3 pages, do a sketch, take a few photos a day, pull out your old
watercolors (like me) and get them wet, pick up a class at your local college.
Just take one step...today is that day to try~
Our creative spirits want to sing, dance, write, and make delicious art~
Let's not just sit and watch others, let's just get in there and do it~ come on!!!
I adore you and am thinking of each of you my sheep loving, artsy friends.
I hope this is a great season of new growth for you, too.
Now get going!
love & lambs,
jj

ReplyDelete...Blessings :o)
Ive been piddling with my new art journal and the gesso makes the watercolor behave totally differently than on my paper. The first day was exhilarating, the second day I had more of an agenda and it didnt go so well. Thank you for sharing all of the wonderful things you are doing. And for your sweet sweet self. (I have had a bicycle idea for oldest daughter in the back of my head so this really made me smile! She has the cutest little mutt I wanted to put riding in the basket on her bike- I need to get on it!)Yours are just so great!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow...really love the work here.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely...what ink/pen are you using? Curious minds need to know ;} I picked up some more pan pastels and can't wait to play with them...soon...so much to do...oh my!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post, bikes have a special meaning to me also, my husband & I ride together and do bike tours for vacation. It brings such a sense of accomplishment and freedom. This year we have slowed down a bit (my husband broke his hip), so I have thrown myself into art journaling and am loving it, it helps me stay centered and true to myself and opens my eyes to things. God Bless.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes... GREAT post!! The bike sketches are adorable and the story so sweet. I whole heartedly salute your creative approach - no wonder such an abundance is given unto you, you are truly worth for something new to appear through! And thank you for the Isaiah quote - what eminent words. Your sketches are so sweet. Gotta dash... my next creative piece is awaiting delivery :-)

I have been wanting to play with watercolors - something I never tried before and just haven't gotten the right inspired idea to give it a go...but to lay down INK first, then color (probably outside the lines!), that is it! And your art looks like it should be licensed for notepads and stationary...hope the Lord opens those doors for you!
ReplyDeleteYour watercolor sketches are BEAUTIFUL! I love them and the thoughts you shared. Does doodling count as a creative passion that is also a calming meditation? Because I think it's mine. Calligraphy is a creative passion of mine, after all, and doodling (in my case at least) is a more relaxed form of it that lends itself nicely to meditation.
ReplyDeleteWow...so beautiful! I haven't sketched...I don't know, it's just not something I've considered, but I love your work and the thoughts and being led by Him...it's all a beautiful process! I don't know that I have anything at present that is entirely relaxing...hmm....kinda sad. =(
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at Studio JRU today!

ReplyDeleteAll I can say is LOVE!♥
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful and refreshing, Junelle, as your blog always is! I love the bicycles and your other journal pages. I always wonder--do you draft something first on a scrap piece of paper before you ink it into your journal? Your ideas sketched out in your beautiful handwriting are art in themselves...
ReplyDeleteWOW.. this is just wonderful. I love what you are doing. and the sketch with not having time to eat your toast.. your mind is just every where with creative idea.. oh that is so me.. some days I have to heat up my coffee 3-4 times I get so involved..glad I am not the only one.
